The Climbing Library

Deriving from an initial exploration of a counterpoint that is abstract to the analytical order and linear thought of lawyers at Lincolns Inn Fields, existing in an alleyway adrift from its surroundings through tactile surfaces that cling to their surrounding linear realms,‘The Climbing Library’ aims to explore aspects of climbing: tension, counterbalance, and the equilibrium relationship between the heavy and the light. A cantilevering lightweight chassis, an exoskeleton in the form of a library, supports a mass of counterbalancing books, only achieving its equilibrium by its symbiotic relationship with an out of balance climbing wall. A counterpoint is explored through the physical bodily movement of climbing and the cerebral and sedentary nature of reading.
