Object Hallucinations

Through practicing object-triggered ‘free association’, the project questions whether the flickering-up and passing-away of consciousness during object perception can be used in architectural design. Objects are not objective: could we see six of Sigmund Freud’s desk objects as a Reptile House?

The visitor drifts through a distortion of Freud’s psychoanalytical tools, momentarily experiencing surreal encounters with the creatures that inhabit them: a giant Gecko dashes between the shadows, whilst one finds themselves confused as to whether they, or the reptile, is enclosed. A central ear, through material conversation, becomes a bonding space that can be anything: playing on the rhythms and juxtapositions of the surrounding objects: allowing the visitor to float between blurred boundaries and very defined experiences, as if within a dream.
